Come Park With Me…. Popularity of Airport Driveway Parking Soars!
Savvy car owners are saving more than 50 per cent in costs by shunning official airport parking and choosing nearby rented driveways instead, according to figures from on-line parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk.
The increasing popularity of rented driveway parking is reflected in figures released by YourParkingSpace.co.uk which show that year-on-year bookings within the vicinity of airports are up by 284 per cent with the on-line parking portal.
One of the next busier periods for UK airports is the summer half-term holiday which is fast approaching for many at the end of May.
While some simply book the official airport parking, those looking to bag a parking bargain will shop around for the best deal, including parking on a rented driveway or empty space.
At the UK’s busiest airport, Heathrow, the price for one week’s parking from 10am on Saturday 26th May to the same time a week later is £92.90 in the official long-stay car park for Terminal 3, compared to just £28.00 on a YourParkingSpace.co.uk driveway just 13 minutes’ walk away.
Big savings are also possible for those flying from Gatwick, the eighth busiest airport in Europe. The official long-stay South terminal car park can cost £84.00 for the same one-week period, whereas a rented driveway just nine minutes’ by foot costs a mere £43.75.
Further north and the picture is just the same over the same week. Parking at Manchester Airport costs from £58.99 on its website, against just £27.13 with YourParkingSpace.co.uk which has a rented driveway just ten minutes’ strolling distance.
Big savings are also possible in Scotland. Holidaymakers flying from Glasgow Airport would pay £54.99 for the same one-week stay at an official long-stay car park, but just over fifteen minutes’ saunter away is an empty space available for £26.25 with YourParkingSpace.co.uk
Heading back into England and travellers flying from Norwich Airport could pay just £21.00 with YourParkingSpace.co.uk and a walk of just 11 minutes’, but from £60.50 with official parking for the same time period.
Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “It’s clear to see that substantial savings for parking are possible at some of the UK’s biggest airports if opting to park on a rented driveway, many within walking distance of the terminal building.
“For instance, at Heathrow, Manchester, Glasgow and Norwich savings of more than 50 per cent are possible, leaving more money to spend while on holiday or on duty free! It’s no flight of fancy, shopping around beforehand can reveal some amazing differences in prices.”
